Birge and Wilder - Units and Weapons

Friend, Historian and Guest Host John Walsh brings us the story of "Birge's Western Sharpshooters". The Dimick Rifle was a true piece of enginering for the time. John also talks about Bob Becker's display on "Wilders Brigade", and as a bonus interviews Harvey Cash the origanal person to collect all these items.

I want to thank John for the willingness to always jump in and lend a hand. He is a true student of history and is not scared to be thrown in almost any situation at a moments notice. He does so much for Our History Project I could not begin to list it here. Visit his site http://www.fortdonelsonrelics.com/ to learn more.

In this powerful new biography award-winning author Harlow Giles Unger reveals the epic story of James Monroe-the last of America’s Founding Fathers, who transformed a small fragile nation beset by enemies into a glorious and powerful empire stretching “from sea to shining sea.”

This was a great story you don't want to miss. This interview is filled with topic of history that as rarely been explored. Guaranteed an hour that will fly by.

This is also a show to burn to a disk and hand to an educator, don't rely on go to this site and listen - hand it to them. This is a great extra credit show that will give substance to our founding and a man that is little explored in history.

SGT. Herculando Dias - "The U.S. Army’s First, Last and Only All-Black Rangers”

Our History Project

SGT. Herulando Dias - "The U.S. Army’s First, Last and Only All-Black Rangers”

We are interviewing Herulano Dias of the 2nd Company Airborne Rangers (Korea). Former Sgt. Dias was a part of the elite and only all black Ranger Divisions in the History of the United States. This interview covers a book by Edward L. Posey entitled “The U.S. Army’s First, Last and Only All-Black Rangers”. This interview shows an in-depth look into not only the racial strife of the 1950’s but also explores the narrow mindset of racial equality of the time. Further, it explores the war from a firsthand account while bringing to light the accomplishments of our black forces and the everyday struggles and bravery they experienced.

"The U.S. Army's First, Last and Only All Black Rangers by Edward Posey
This is a book for every shelf either at home or in the classroom. Korea was a forgotten war and in that forgetting a lot of men were forgotten too. This is a great read that I whole heartedly recommend." - Craig Anderson

On a personal note: We are proud to announce that Cassie has had her baby. We are hoping that she will join us Monday Night at 10PM to fill us all in on the new addition.

Congratulations Cassie and Kelly!

Monday

Every Monday night at 10PM we host a talk show called "The Relic Roundup". Hosted by Craig of OHP, Butch Holcombe of American Digger and Ian Conway of Research and Recovery. The title may frighten some but the show is really about learning, preserving and collecting America's past.

Sometimes we make our own topics like restaurants, movies, cars, clothes, headphones music and the list just keeps going on and on. So don't think it is only for those who metal detect.

You can call in to 678-369-7943 or skype in to wesley.c.anderson during the show.

This Monday's Guest

We will be having a guest from Kellyco, the Metal Detecting Superstore for at least part of the show. So, if you ever wanted to get a detector, upgrade, try a hand at prospecting or any other type of treasure hunting tonight is the night to call in with your questions. Again, the numbers are 678-369-7943 or skype: wesley.c.anderson.

Tell Us A Story

This week the show is not only for the history lover, metal detectorist or collectors but also for those aspiring to get into print. That’s right- Do you write? Do you want to? Or better yet - should you?

In this episode the Publisher of American Digger Magazine and Author of several books tells us what we should know about submissions, content and the do’s and don’ts of the writing industry. In essence this is not only what he looks for but every print publication looks for. This is one of those shows that is for any and everyone so pass it around.

It also brings up again the question: Should you write? I’m at fault here as well. I spend a lot of time researching but not a lot of time writing, but think about this – What are you finding in the field? Who was there? Why are you looking for this stuff in the first place? And the questions go on and on. Let us preserve this history with a little story.
